The great majority of online stock trading and investment sites offer many research options, so that you can analyze the performance of the investments over different periods of time. If you look at longer periods, such as 3 or 5 years, you will be able to see how consistent the performance of the stock was over that amount of time. If the stock or investment seems to be quite stable, especially with steady increase, then you can consider it low-risk or safety-stock and you can make your choices accordingly.
